Music in your hands

Artisan creator of black clay

Rufina represents three thousand years of pottery tradition that has been passed down from mother to daughter.

What started as a child's game became her profession. She wanted to dedicate herself to music.

He soon realized that he could make music with his hands by modeling unique pieces.

To be an artist, music was not necessary, but I carried art in my hands. Rufina

This is how he makes the pieces

What started out as a girl's game is now what feeds her.

The first step that Rufina takes to ensure that her products are of the highest quality is to clean the clay of all the impurities that it may contain when it is collected.

Once the clay is clean, Rufina adds water and begins to turn what will become her pieces on a manual foot lathe.

When the piece is turned and somewhat dry, ready to be put in the oven, all the details are polished, which will make it a unique and high-quality piece.

After allowing the pieces to cool, when they come out of the oven, many of them acquire a shine that is very characteristic of black clay. This is achieved by hand-polishing the surface with a stone.

The pieces made by Rufina

A matriarchal tradition, which she learned from her mother and now shares with all of us.
