Artisan creator of baked clay

Luis Miguel is a 4th generation artisan. He has been working with clay since he was 7 years old. What started as a game has become his life.

In Luis Miguel's family workshop, 14 to 17 people work, apart from the machinists, who are people who work from their homes. In total, 20 families live in this family workshop full of tradition, pride and joy.

We were surprised that upon entering Luis Miguel's workshop, we could find a great contrast between large pieces, such as vases and flower pots, and figures loaded with hand-molded details.

The art we have is very chameleonic, from a simple flowerpot to a detailed sculpture. Luis Miguel

This is how he makes the pieces

Proud of his legacy.

To begin working with this technique, the mixture is made with the clay, which comes from the caves in blocks and which must be left to dry in the sun so that it loses water and can be ground later, and the sascab which is fine white sand that we will add to the already ground clay powder with water to begin molding.

It is a long process, with many steps to ensure that the piece is perfect. Once the piece is molded, it is left to dry in the sun, to correct any possible defects.

Once the piece is air-dry, it is corrected if necessary, left to dry in the sun again and finally placed in the oven.

If you want to decorate the piece with paint details, you would do so in this last step and once it is dry to the touch, you would put it back in the oven, so that it adheres and thus improves its durability.
