Artisan Ceramic Creators

Huakal was born as an initiative of the Kalimori Foundation, a Mexican foundation whose objectives are to change the way we view intellectual disabilities, promote the development of people with disabilities to lead a life with greater independence and raise awareness in society of their worth.

In this ceramics workshop in the Kalimori Community of Malinalco, artisan creators with intellectual disabilities create these beautiful pieces, demonstrating that their disability does not limit beauty.

This small workshop is Huakal's most intimate pride and the maximum expression of its reason for being.

We like being able to help design these beautiful pieces. Kalimori Community

This is how pieces are made in the Kalimori Community

A magical workshop full of joy and social awareness.

In the Kalimori community, each person is evaluated in order to contribute and develop their skills, with a lot of love and support. Casting, laminating and different finishes are the three main areas of this workshop.

Within the ceramics workshop, the group of artisan creators divides up the work in such a way that each of them specializes in a specific part of the process.

In the casting phase, the ceramic mass is poured into the moulds. In the lamination phase, the ceramic is moulded manually to create plates and bowls.

They then add texture and different finishes to the pieces, such as the holes in the candle holders. Once the piece is ready, it is painted and baked.
